Markant Group Supports "StadtLesen" Reading Festival Again in 2019

Commitment | | DE Offenburg

The StadtLesen campaign is back in Offenburg from 18 to 21 July. Visitors and Markant employees can browse through over 3,000 books to their heart's content – be it in a comfy hammock, on a bean bag, or under the shade of an umbrella.

The motto for this year's event "Reading doesn't create a world inside your head, reading IS a world inside your head" already says it all: the pure power of fantasy and creative impulses that reading can unlock is what the StadtLesen reading festival is all about.

Opening at 18:00

This year's event will also be opened by Franz-Friedrich Müller, President of the Administrative Board at Markant AG. The official opening will be on the 18th of July at 18:00.

A celebrity guest

A top highlight for visitors will be the appearance of this year's celebrity guest, Katharina Thalback, who will be reading from one of her favourite books. The famous German actress, synchronized speaker, and director comes from a theatrical background: her father was the director Benno Besson, and her mother, the actress Sabine Thalbach. The 65-year-old has been treading the boards since she was five and was a star student at the Berliner Ensemble. She was featured in a multitude of films such as "Head Full of Honey" (Honig im Kopf), "I'm Off Then" (Ich bin dann mal weg) and "Hanni & Nanni".

Creative Competition

The tradition of promoting young regional talent will also continue in 2019. In the winter, the city of Offenburg, the Mittelbadische Zeitung, StadtLesen and Markant have already invited pupils from across the region to submit short stories on the topic "Our Environment". Before Katharina Thalbach's reading on Thursday, 18 July at 19:00, the prize for the three best short stories from the pupils will be presented. The top three will receive 500, 300 or 100 euros, respectively, for their class fund.

Other special features:

Markant has come up with a lot of ideas on how it can offer more than just the opportunity to read books in Offenburg: a photo booth, an information stand, short presentations, and delicious refreshments await visitors at the reading festival. The company, rooted in Offenburg, is also giving all of its employees on-site an hour for reading, a book, and another small surprise.
